The Japan Wheelchair Rugby Federation (JWRF) is pleased to announce that the ” MITSUI FUDOSAN 2022 Wheelchair Rugby SHIBUYA CUP,” the first international wheelchair rugby tournament to be hosted by the JWRF, will be held between November 19 (Sat.) – 20 (Sun.) at the Yoyogi National Stadium 2nd Gymnasium.
With the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, many people are now interested in para-sports, and we hope that many fans will come to the place that has created so many stories as spectators this time and experience the vibrancy, realistic sound, passion, and excitement of wheelchair rugby and cheer for the teams. This is why we have planned this event.
We are pleased to announce that Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. will support this event as an event partner. We are grateful for Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. for supporting our event concept and has been supporting the federation since 2016, and has been our top partner since 2017.
In addition, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Shibuya City, where the Yoyogi National Stadium is located, have agreed to co-host this event.
Shibuya City has been promoting wheelchair rugby at schools within the city since before the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and as the area is particularly interested in the sport, the city will support the event as a co-host.
The popularization and spread of para-sports is a major catalyst for the realization of an inclusive society, and we will take advantage of this opportunity to continue to promote interest in para-sports by starting a new international wheelchair rugby tournament here in Yoyogi.
The purpose of this event is to provide a starting point for the next generation athletes for both Japan and Australia, and to encourage them to spread their wings to the world from the SHIBUYA CUP. Therefore, the teams will consist mainly of young athletes.
